Improving Governing Board Performance
Rulon F. Stacey, Ph.D., FACHE
Please join us 28th April 11:30 am MDT for a presentation with Rulon F. Stacey, Ph.D., FACHE; Dir. of Programs in Health Administration, University of Colorado Denver. This session will provide an outline of what actions an organization can take to ensure that they have the right people on the board of directors and a step-by-step approach to implement those steps in your organization. In the future successful organizations will have to have a governing board which identifies the markers of success and works with discipline to achieve those outcomes. This session will provide a road map for healthcare organizations pursing such improvement.
Physician practices, hospitals, surgery centers, start-ups…they all have one thing in common. They have governing boards. For too long healthcare organizations have taken the work of the governing board for granted. Often organizations use the board of directors as a reward for service in one area, donations to the hospital, a large share of stock, or some other reason unrelated to the ability of the person to provide meaningful service on a board of directors. Unfortunately, this process has left many organizations falling short of the mark in planning, performance, and patient outcomes.
Take Aways:
- Know how to select the board that is right for their organization
- Know how to monitor performance against goals for the board
- Be able to better engage senior leaders to:
- Improve patient care
- Engage the workforce
- Drive toward specific objectives
