About the Speaker
Brian Wong is a Physician, healthcare author, consultant and CEO of The Bedside Trust in Seattle. Dr. Wong earned his Doctor of Medicine with University of California San Francisco and held residency at Providence Medical Center in Seattle, WA. In addition to The Beside Trust, he also held significant positions such as Chair of QA at Providence Medical Center, Medical Director at Rainer Family Medical Group, and Medical Director at Hospice of Seattle. After 10 years of clinical practice experience, Dr. Wong began consulting to healthcare organizations across the country, specializing in transforming organizational cultures in healthcare.
If, as the saying goes, “Culture eats strategy for lunch,” then enhancing organizational culture must become strategy No. 1. However, this is not often the case. Our preoccupation with strategies, activities and metrics often trumps our focus on culture and behavior—to the detriment of the patient experience. This preoccupation is a major cause of our current challenges. We have all become driven to distraction with initiative overload. Meanwhile, the crush of these additional activities takes us further and further away from focusing on our patients.
Dr. Wong’s consulting practice was inspired by medical practice. Specifically, he has taken the questions foundational to the medical workup and modified them into a “cultural workup” to diagnose and treat the cultural ills of any organization. Two of his fundamental questions are: “What matters most to patients?” and “Who do you trust?” He has asked these questions of over 5,000 physicians and 30,000 patients in all 50 states. He has learned that the answers to these questions are both universal and timeless. Join us as he helps us discover how to understand, harness and leverage the power of a TRUSTED Culture and that you can indeed change your culture by doing less of one thing, not more of everything.
