Program, Arizona State University
Please join us September 29th at 11:30 am MT for a presentation with Robert K. Smoldt, Chief Administrative Officer Emeritus, Mayo Clinic Associate Director, Healthcare Delivery and Policy Program, Arizona State University. This presentation will cover how the US healthcare delivery system is far from perfect. The overriding complaints are that a) in the US we have high cost of care but do not receive good value for the money spent and b) the US is the only high GDP country without universal health insurance coverage. There are many suggestions about how to improve healthcare delivery in our country. This presentation will look at 5 common suggestions for improvement that, if implemented, would not do as much to improve US healthcare delivery as their proponent’s desire. In fact, some might actually work against the goal of a high value US healthcare delivery system.
- Understanding of the interdependencies in the delivery of efficient high value healthcare.
- Often a suggestion for change, may improve one aspect in the delivery of healthcare, while causing problems in another.
- There is no perfect healthcare delivery system.
- There are tradeoffs involved in any improvement effort.
- Weighing the tradeoffs should be done carefully when making the needed improvements in our country’s healthcare system.
